Marbled Glass Series 1

These pieces were made for Chroma Zone, a group show at Blue Triangle Gallery in Somerville, MA in February, 2026. They are made with oil based enamel and gold leaf on glass. The black and gold graphic patterns are derived from stone carvings on tombstones, monasteries, and other ancient buildings and monuments in historic Armenia. They were sourced from the designer Armen Kyurkcyan. The bright colors are achieved by marbling, a process where paints are floated on top of a liquid medium and then transferred to paper or glass.

Inspired by the ornamental art of medieval Armenian architecture, these pieces help to reconnect me to my heritage and ancestral homeland, while simultaneously rooting me in my present-day life as a sign painter and muralist who uses bright colors and gold leaf to invigorate the public sphere.

Recent and continued destruction of historic Armenian cultural and religious sites compels the preservation of these architectural treasures in the diaspora. By reinterpreting visual history into a new iteration, I weave preservation and creation, honoring the monuments of my ancestry with vibrancy and hope for a better future.
